By: Zoe Hines Founder of Ballistic Sounds. Rock artist Lawrence Taylor released his EP Bang Bang March of this year. This EP brings up issues of love, friendship, and personal difficulties that he has conquered.
“Chains” is a strong first track that capitalizes on Taylor’s inner struggle. His reference to chains represents his growth as a person and breaking away from sorrow. The guitar opens up very softly but gets louder, depicting the rise of Taylor’s poise. As “ Chains” fades out, the flow of the next track’s opening guitar chords instantly captures your attention. “Bang Bang” describes someone judging Taylor before they have gotten the chance to know him. The crash of the cymbal quickens the rhythm as he discusses his confidence and pride. Taylor’s lyrics “You see you try to blow me, but I’m almost six feet tall” shows that the opinions of others don’t disturb him.. “Bang Bang” shows his strength of character, as the listener learns that he is focused on his own priorities rather than worrying about people who dislike him for no reason. The mood and content switch from self-confidence when “Waiting for Your Love” begins with sleek lyrics about his quest for devotion. This song is one of the most relatable songs on the EP. Taylor captures the dilemma of wanting to wait for someone that you have deep feelings for, but also debating if it is even worth it. His use of visual symbolism to describe his delay makes this track impressive. At one point in the song, Taylor goes back and forth about the decision he must make. Should he leave or should he stay? The question is answered with a lovely guitar solo to end this empathetic track. “Robyn”, the last track, fills your ears with comfort. This feel good track serves as a reminder to someone that he cares for. Throughout this song, he is continually cheering up Robyn and reminding Robyn of how great of a person they are. Taylor’s personality shines in this song as it shows the positivity he has gained through his life experiences, while also spreading his eagerness to others. Bang Bang is a very compelling EP for an artist that is so young. Taylor’s content is already solid for an up and coming artist. The guitar solos and riffs fuse seamlessly with his powerful lyricism, making this rock EP admirable. Ballistic Sounds is excited to see other Lawrence Taylor releases and watch him grow!
