By: Shayla HarrisFormer Co-Founder and Editor of Ballistic Sounds. BallisticSounds was elated to hear that singer, songwriter Alina Baraz is working on her next album. Though it is unclear what phase the project is in, Baraz’s tweets let us know that something is in the works. Her debut album, Urban Flora, which is a year and a couple months old was made in tandem with electronic music producer Galimatias. The album melded downbeat electronic production with Baraz’s sultry R&B voice to create an entrancing sound.
Baraz’s lyricism is ripe with metaphors and imagery that capture the nuisances of love and lust in a way that sets her music apart from other sensuous tunes. Her passionate narratives fade into slow house beats and dazzling synth until the listener is brought to the next story. While Galimatias’s production often emphasizes atmosphere, giving the tracks a soothing ambient soundscape, Baraz’s modulated drawl makes the music hard to ignore. It is unclear if Baraz’s new project will be another collaboration with Galiamatias, but with both artists only in their early twenties future collaboration is a strong possibility and growth is imminent.
