By: Shayla HarrisFormer Co-Founder and Editor of Ballistic Sounds. R&B singer Druskii Dru is an artist to watch, taking off for the top with his latest track “On Mamas”. After a successful year in 2015, the artist was extremely enthusiastic to take his career to the next level by working with The Mekanics, acclaimed most recently for production on Bryson Tiller’s “Exchange.” “On Mamas” shows that Druskii Dru and The Mekanics are a dynamic collaboration. The inviting opening guitar chords and Druskii Dru’s soothing vocals pair well. The beat and Druskii’s voice grow with themes of lust and love, making this a great song to sing and dance to. BallisticSounds isn’t the only one who has noticed; “On Mamas” was recently added to Snoop Dogg's Doggystyle Records Soundcloud playlist.

We were delighted to speak with Druskii Dru about his unique journey to takeoff, which started with a backstage roll. This Fort Lauderdale native broke into the music industry as an intern at South Beach Studios, while attending school for audio engineering. He continued on to intern in the A&R department at Universal Studios, where he was inspired by notable producers, singers and songwriters like Pharrell, Rico Love, and Trey Songz. Fast-forward to the beginning of his takeoff in 2015, and it is clear that Druskii Dru used his unique learning experience to leverage his raw talent. He secured a spot on the 2015 Grammy Ballot and had two songs in three categories on the RIAA (The Recording Industry Association of America) ballot. In 2016, Druskii Dru has been developing his sound, honing his craft and encouraging people to live out their dreams. The guiding ideal in his ascent: “Don’t be afraid of vulnerability and transparency; people respond to authenticity.”
