Ballistic Sounds caught up with the rapper discussing her start, dream artist/producers and her newest project.
Read all about it below: When did you start rapping? I've been rapping since I was kid. The first rap I can remember writing was a rendition of Sir Mix-a-lot's "Baby Got Back" but mine was about boys with big ears. I would record songs in my homie/neighbors room over Nujabes and Dilla beats and we'd burn cds to play for whoever. What made you realize that you wanted to pursue rapping as a career? In 2012 I knew for sure. I had some friends who formed a hip hop collective out of Decatur and they released a project. I remember listening to it and thinking 'Shit, I could do this.' I was heavy on the spoken word tip and was only recording songs for fun, but at that moment I made it a goal to put my own project together and I did. I had one month to do it because I was using some 30 day trial software. I put it out on Facebook and received so much great feedback from my friends. And That was that. Do you have a dream artist or producer that you are looking forward to working with in the future? I would love to work with Missy Elliot, Brandy, Timbaland, Kendrick, Bon Iver, and Kings of Leon. I'd put all of them on one project too. That would be so badass. You’ve opened up for popular artists in the music industry, what have you learned from that experience? I guess I've learned how different people entertain. Everyone has their own style and stage presence but there are a lot of commonalities when it comes to putting on a solid show. I soak it all up. And if anything, I've learned that I'm on the right track. What do you think of your debut project The Moment? There is soul, amazing production, and a series of captured moments. Whether they're introspective, reminiscent, hilarious, or sexy. You'll get a little deeper into my mind. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? I see myself progressing and evolving always. I want to go on a worldwide tour traveling with the people I love and making music for the people I love. The Moment is available on Spotify, Tidal and Apple Music! He recently signed with PureBred Music group, a music label based in Atlanta, New Jersey and Las Vegas. Ballistic Sounds caught up with the Jersey native discussing his future project, plans for the summer and working in Atlanta.
Read all about it below: What made you want to pursue a rap career? When I was 17 years old, I used to hear local artist around the city and people actually had them thinking they were good. I knew in my heart I could be one of the best rappers in the game if I took it seriously and focused on my craft. I used to watch Lil Wayne on MTV Jams and be in my room rapping in the background to his videos back then. I knew this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. You have been spending a lot of time in Atlanta lately what brings you to the area? My label, PureBred Music Group, put me up in a high rise for the summer to work on my mixtape. The label also sent me my own personal engineer as well as a videographer to document my summer as I work on my mixtape. Since I’ve been out in Atlanta, I received nothing but love and great vibes. It’s a very different culture from jersey but I’m digging it. It’s like a second home to me already. Jersey or ATL? That’s hard to pick. Honestly, I treat every city like it’s my home but at the end of the day I’m a Jersey boy. Being an artist you have to know how to embrace every city you’re in especially when you have die hard fans that show you the love and support that I receive. Without them, there is no me. When is your project dropping? My project should be dropping by the end of the summer. I shoot the visual to my first single, “Chanel Chanel” July 15th. Joe Yung Spike will be directing my video. He has directed videos for Future,Gucci Mane, Moneybagg Yo, Young Thug, DJ Khaled, Lil Boosie and Webbie. It was an honor for him to ask to shoot my video. We’re bringing the big toys out and a lot of big cameos. So get ready, because this is gonna be a classic, ya feel me? What should we expect from your upcoming project? My upcoming mixtape is a tape that you can listen to from the beginning to the end without skipping any tracks. I have songs that all audiences can relate with. I believe I’ve put together a complete body of work that everyone would enjoy listening too. Are there any collaborations that we should be excited for? I don’t want to spoil any surprises. I’ve got a lot of big name artists who I’ve collaborated with. You might get a couple of those features on the tape, but you’ll have to cop the mixtape to find out. Plans for the summer? My only plan is to take over the summer. I haven’t dropped music in 5 months because I’ve been working and perfecting my craft. My fans are still interested and ready to see what my next move is. PureBred is a lifestyle, not just a label. Our cars are exotic, our jewelry is custom, and our women are foreign. My manager Jackpot and I have been running through these cities tearing up clubs and strip clubs making movies. Now you’re gonna hear about our life experiences through my music. By: Zoe Hines Founder of Ballistic Sounds. A Band Called Flash released their E.P. Phantom in 2016. Their project received positive reviews from Resident Advisor and Rush Hour. With only one project out, A Band Called Flash has acquired a following from different countries around the world. Ballistic Sounds caught up with the man behind it all, flexible producer Jared Hines. He answered some questions regarding new music, musical influences and plans for the future:
Who are your musical influences? Prince mainly, Outkast, Miguel, Frank Ocean, St. Vincent, Talking Heads, Michael Jackson, David Bowie. What was your favorite song off of the Phantom EP? Hmm, well my favorite song to produce was definitely Phantom. It was such a new sound for me to explore and really evolved the way that I write. My favorite song to perform is Hotline Bling 2. The energy that the band puts out performing it is something else. It never fails to get me hyped up. What artists do you want to collaborate with in the future? I would really love to work with Jamie Lidell some day. He's got such a great voice and I think our styles would complement each other well. A Andre 3000 or Big Boi collab would probably be the greatest thing that could ever happen to me. What are your plans for 2017? Release more music. The first two releases have done really well and the fact that Phantom, my first release with a vocal, has done so well gives me more incentive to write more singing for A Band Called Flash. I've also written a few pop-ish tracks that I want to start shopping around. A new project could be in the works as well. Visuals are also on the menu. The band is very good looking and I have to start showing them off. Phantom is available on iTunes, Spotify and Soundcloud! |
