This week’s #FlightFriday features Canadian R&B duo, Majid Jordan composed of singer Majid Al Maskati and producer Jordan Ullman. You might have heard them on a couple of songs with Champagne Papi, including “Hold On, We’re Going Home” and ”Jungle”.
Now these two are preparing for takeoff, as they get ready for their first ever North American tour. They will hit 26 cities, starting off in Montreal on September 30th and ending in the 6 on November 10th, where it all started. This February, the duo released their self-titled debut album that is filled with themes of lust and romance. The album gives the audience a feel good vibe, leading them to place of desire and sensuality. Maskati’s gentle falsetto and Ullman’s talent on the synth produce a sound that has put them in flight, and there’s no telling how high they will go. http://majidjordan.com Written by: Funmi Onadipe

This #FlightFriday features two budding artists taking off out of Chitown. Rapper Vic Mensa and singer, songwriter BJ the Chicago Kid are heating up the Chicago music scene and their careers with tours.
Mensa released his first full length project in three years, There’s A Lot Going On, in June, garnering new listeners and praise. Though Mensa’s tour is comprised of only eleven performances in ten cities, it will likely accelerate his path to stardom. Mensa’s seven track E.P. is packed with an array of themes and deep emotions. The expansive motifs give multiple lines for audience members to relate to, while the emotional depth and personal content will give the performances a sense of intimacy, fostering a connection between Mensa and the audience. Zoe from BallisticSounds saw Mensa do a special performance directly following the release of the EP and describes the live experience of being a part of his emotional journey as engaging and unpredictable. http://vicmensa.com/tour/ BJ the Chicago Kid’s tour begins tonight in his beloved Chicago. Though BJ’s latest release was several months ago, this tour will incite excitement and position the artist for takeoff. Unlike Mensa, BJ is on tour for the long haul. Chicago is only the beginning; BJ will be hitting 31 different cities in 8 different countries. The scope of this tour will help BJ’s following takeoff and extend into international territory. Though BJ likes to pay homage to his city, his soothing R&B voice and accessible content has the potential to attract a wide audience hailing from places across the globe. http://www.bjtck.com/ Written by: Shayla Haris ![]() With renowned artists Drake and Future co-headlining, the Summer ‘16 Tour hardly seems like the venue for emerging artists. However, this tour provides a prime opportunity for openers Roy Wood$ and dvsn to garner the type of following that could accelerate their careers to the next level. The tour comes at a pivotal moment in both of these OVO Sound musicians’ careers. Wood$ has a come a long way since Drake debuted “Drama”, a track from Wood$ EP, Exis, during the OVO Sound radio show about a year ago. With over 100k followers and the July 1st release of his debut album, Walking at Dawn, Wood$ is inching towards the spotlight. This tour provides him with the opportunity to gain even more name and face recognition. While half of the dvsn duo has produced grammy nominated records and Billboard Hot 10 hits from “Trufflebutter” to “Hotline Bling”, the R&B artists have maintained an enigmatic air. Nineteen85, the acclaimed producer behind many of Drake’s hits, and vocalist Daniel Daley premiered their soothing, sensuous vibe on OVO Sound Radio without revealing their identities. After much speculation, they finally took credit for their well received songs “With Me” and “Too Deep,” which made their way onto dvsn’s first studio album Sept 5th. With discography dating back to only late 2015, dvsn’s quick acclaim and successful headlining tour in June shows that they are truly on the up and coming. Their feature on Views’ “Faithful” and their spot on the Summer ‘16 tour will only further lift the duo’s mysterious mask and better position them for takeoff. Written by: Shayla Harris |
